For the 2023 Virginia QSO party took on a different feel this year, with the band conditions being good, new members trying the event for the first time, and experienced members tried something different this year. It was a fun time for all and a great opportunity for members to connect differently than their normal routine.

For example, this year we had John, KX4O, along with his XYL to do the logging, going mobile HF this year. Not only did they work the contest, enjoy the south and southwest countryside of Virginia, but they managed to visit two stops to visit family along the way.

Then we had member Ric, KN4FTT, do some HF mobile himself in Rappahannock and Frederick Counties.

Relatively new member Chuck, KO4VNZ, decide to go to the contest station of Mike, KA4RRU, in Catlett, VA who again this year the W4VA callsign. Several local hams joined in help with the effort for W4VA. Usually Mark, K4SO, a longtime member who has a wonderful station himself and normally does a solo operation during the event, decided to join in the camaraderie of operating at a multi-multi station as well.

Lastly, the father and son team of Rich, K1HTV, and Andy, K1RA, teamed up to enter the contest as the KW4VA multi-multi at K1HTV’s QTH. It has been quite a while since they teamed up. K1HTV recently installed his 80′ rotating tower he had in storage addition to his fixed 70′ tower attached to his house. So it gave them the opportunity to really put the station to use.

These are just a few examples of the efforts made by the membership of FARA. Not only did the membership have fun but we spread the friendship of amateur radio through the airwaves.
